Dear... Lost Soul
How are you?
Lately, life has been dragging you down. There is no other way to put it but you are miserable.
You feel like you've been tossed into the ocean with the weight of an anchor swiftly pulling you down to the dark abyss.
You struggle to save yourself, tirelessly flailing and swinging to try to escape your doom.
You're running out of breath and start choking on the salty water that's forcing its way into your system.
But you're still fighting, struggling to exit the water alive, regardless of what's holding you back.
Life is hard, especially for you.
Your mother is gone. Your aunt who you loved more than anything is gone. Your brother is gone, his wife and son moving far away from you. Your last living family member abandoned you when you were still young. Both of your dogs have died when you were too busy trying to prove yourself in college, the latter you put down because you didn't have enough money to pay for its treatments. Your father has moved on with a new family, one that he prefers far more than the result of an affair. Your best friend has deserted you now that she has a better life than the dark pit she was in that you tried to pull her out of. Your relatives have forgotten you, as you caused a fight among their family. Your friends are tired of your sadness, it's been years and you still can't get on your feet. Your soulmate is growing exhausted with how difficult you are to be with.
All you have is a lifeless stuffed dog.
When you look at this stuffed dog, it smiles at you all brightly and warmly. It can't judge you, it's made of cotton. It can't berate you, it's mouth stitched as a permanent grin. It can't hurt you, it's body softer than anything you've held in your life.
This stuffed dog is your solace, and if you think about it realistically, it's down right sad. But it makes you happy to know that there is one thing in the world that accepts you for who you are. Regardless of how you haven't showered for days, how broke you are, how loud you scream, how hard you hit the wall, how ugly you cry or how you hurt it when you bring it to your chest as you wipe away the tears. It loves you and that will never change.
And as you're drowning, you remember that you need to get back up to land because a small stuffed dog is waiting for you.
In its smile is the love that all the people who cherished you, immortalized in one small dog.
So you fight, and you need to keep fighting.
Your chains will come off and you will see that smile again.
If you are able to read this, know that you have overcome harder times. You are stronger than you think, your heart is harder than it seems. Fight through the current and make it home.
I'm rooting for you.
